Jessica Rae

I am currently working on becoming a registered interior designer. I turned to a minimalist lifestyle in 2011 after college as I found myself significantly in debt and stressed out about life in general. I discovered that by actually controlling my budget and my wants, I can focus on the more important things in life. My passion for design, mixed with my new found minimalism, have fostered a desire to guide others in reducing their home and belongings and creating a personal, minimal space that best meets their needs and style.

I work for one of the top architecture firms in the world and could not have asked for a better job coming out of college, especially in this economy. But I have learned that while I love my job, it is definitely not the end all, be all. There are many more important things that we should be focusing on, including discovering our true interests and how to be content with our life and our immediate environment. I want to explore what I am really passionate about and find my niche in the design world. Design for small spaces has always fascinated me and now that I am living in a small apartment in downtown Dallas, I am finding that practicing minimalism as a lifestyle is opening my eyes to the many aspects of efficient and practical design for smaller spaces.
